2014 In a Nutshell
Well 2014 has come to an end, and what a year it has been! Myself and my business have grown hugely. This past year I met numerous new families, captured babies on some of their first days of life, styled and photographed a handful of GORGEOUS models, got to see some beautiful growing bellies, and did some really fun, classy, and sensual boudoir sessions. I also had the opportunity of being apart of the weddings of 14 amazing couples, 4 of which I second shot with Nomo from Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa (an amazing photographer and friend). I even got to photograph one of the weddings in Disneyland! It was probably a once in a lifetime experience and I had an absolute blast doing it!
My husband as been a huge part of my business this year. He has been the brains behind all of the designing of Brooklyn D Photography. From my website, to blog, to business cards, and more. I don't know what I would have done without him! He definitely has the patience I do not have when it comes to technology and figuring all of that out. His next venture will be attending some 2015 weddings as my second shooter! He recently second shot for me in Disneyland and did a great job I guess all of the playing around with my cameras he does has paid off! He may just have to get his own though. I don't know how keen I am on having to share ;) At the beginning of 2014 my photography focus was really all over the place. I hadn't quite figured out what my specialty was. I realized partway through the year that I really wasn't enjoying posed, studio styled newborn sessions. I found them long and stressful, and always felt awful for disturbing baby. It was a complete relief when I made the choice to only offer lifestyle newborn sessions, ones where baby is completely comfortable in their own home, and I am not constantly disrupting their slumber. I felt like I was in a place where I could pick and choose what I photographed, that I could do the stuff that made me the happiest.
Going into 2015 I've realized that what makes me the happiest in photography are weddings and styled shoots. Of course I do still love maternity, family, boudoir, and lifestyle newborn sessions. I would never give those up completely. This year my goal will be to book more weddings, to make more industry connections, to put together as many styled shoots as possible, and to have fun while doing it all! I am so incredibly excited for what 2015 will bring for me and my business. Let the fun begin! :)
