2016 in a Nutshell

Ok, so it's a little late, but let's face it, I'm a slacker when it comes to blogging! 2016 was an amazing year. I am blessed to have a job that I am so incredibly passionate about. I am excited to go to work everyday. I love love love what I do! Photography not only brings me joy, but also provides me with opportunities that I would not normally be given.

I photographed 13 weddings of my own in 2016. From Chilliwack, to Mission, to Abbotsford, to Pitt Meadows, to Vernon, to Langley, to Vancouver, there were 13 amazing days, 13 amazing brides and grooms, and thousands of amazing images. So so happy with all of my weddings. They are by far my favourite thing to shoot. How lucky am I that I have been able to be successful in this field?!?!

2016 was the year I got to photograph my first birth! I had never considered doing birth photography (even though I have always been in awe of the whole process of pregnancy and delivery). When Nicole and Aaron (longtime clients) asked me to be in the room, I was thrilled, to say the least. What a special moment to be able to capture!!

2016 was a year of networking. I had previously stuck to myself for the most part. I had a few close industry friends, but didn't really reach out to many others. But I decided to change that. I became close friends, and had the opportunity to work with some truly wonderful people!!

I had the opportunity to work with Charlene Stam from Charlene Stam photography on numerous weddings! She is such a sweetheart, and so fun to work with! There is never a dull moment with her! I hope that I get to work with her again this year!! :)

Ashley from Ashley Martens Photography is another fellow photographer that I have recently become close with. As I write this, she is actually sitting across from me in Starbucks. We are having our "work pow wow" as she calls it. When you run a business and work from home by yourself the majority of the time, it is nice to sometimes work with others!! We also just recently did updated headshots for each other. Thanks Ashley!!!!

Someone I met in late 2015 that I continued a relationship with in 2016 is Christie Lohr, owner of Style Nine to Five (http://styleninetofive.com/). She is honestly one of the most genuine and sincere people I have ever met! She is always so happy and positive. Whenever we shoot together, it is so chill and so fun! We have some shoots planned for the near future and I can't wait!

I feel that I can't possibly write a blog wrapping up 2016 without writing about my most photographed client (and friend), Sydney Power, from Styled by S (http://styledbys.ca/). We met in early 2015 and have continued to work together ever since. Sydney is the most driven, responsible, organized, 19 year old I have ever met. I have no doubt that she will succeed in life, and fulfill all of her dreams!!! Love you Syd! I think we will have to also make you 2017's most photographed client!!! :)

Another epic moment from 2016 was our trip to Disneyland. Ok ok, so that's really not that interesting, considering we go on average every year and a half, but seriously, it's Disneyland. It deserves a mention. ;)

So far we are a month into 2017 and my hopes for the year are so high! I just feel that 2017 and 2018 are going to be my best years yet!! I am going in so positive and so motivated. This is it my friends, 2017 is the year for Brooklyn D Photography!!!! :)
